Penley ET2

Overview/Technology

First up is the Penley ET2, made by one of the most knowledgeable shaft makers in the business, The Godfather of Golf Shafts if you will, Carter Penley. Mr. Penley has reemerged with Penley Research and Development and his latest shaft, the ET2, the predecessor being the successful ETA.

Carter Penley without a doubt manufactures the most technically advanced shafts on the market today. The ET2 is one of those advanced shafts that doesn’t get the attention of a Fujikura, Aldila or Mitsubishi, but rest assured, it is an elite, top of the line golf shaft.

The ET2is a significant upgrade of the original and ever popular ETA model. The ET2 was manufactured with feel, control, and distance at the focus. All other parameters (Mechanical and Physical) compliment these three design attributes.

The TBAR Algorithm is at the heart of Penley’s shafts. TBAR is determining flex factor, although we do apply some common flex range description to help players determine which golf shaft is best suited for their level of play.

The Penley ET2 is without a doubt, the “sleeper” of the the Class of 2010′. And historically, only the more advanced players know and really appreciate Penley shafts. This holds true for the ET2, this is an advanced players shaft.

by Golf Gear Select Not long ago, if you were […]

by Golf Gear Select

Not long ago, if you were a serious golfer and somebody mentioned the name Penley, your thoughts probably shifted to that of high end, high quality golf shafts. Or, maybe you thought of the ever-Penley presence at the Long Drive Championships. Maybe even you thought of John Daly winning the Buick Invitational in 2004 with an ETA in hand. Well, Penley has once again emerged as a leader in the golf shaft industry with the introduction of the ET2, and there is no looking back.

Carter Penley owns and operates Penley Sports out of San Diego, CA. The Penley name made a huge impact with the the ETA shaft several years ago, and is now gaining significant traction and drawing some serious attention by PGA Tour players with the introduction of his recent ET2 shaft, a significant upgrade from the ETA.

PGA players from the likes of John Daly, Lanny Wadkins, Bart Bryant, Joe Durant, and Vijah Singh, have all used Penley shafts. The last name in particular should draw your attention. Vijah Singh is known to be a perfectionist with his equipment and in fact, is known to change his wedges every week to keep the grooves tight! If Vijah used Penley, you know it had to meet the highest of standards.

Mr. Penley is very excited with the glowing reviews the new ET2 is receiving. And now, the good news. You can get your hands on an ET2 by entering and winning a contest being held on November 25th! Golf Gear Select is an avid supporter of the Penley shaft line so we are helping promote the ET2 shaft, by giving a one away on Wednesday, November 25 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

You can sign up by clicking on the Win a Penley ET2 Shaft! just to the right.

Simply enter your name and email address to get in the contest, nothing more is needed. We will make a random drawing on November 25th. The winner will be able to select the shaft flex of choice.

See Penley Shaft Contest rules for the specifics.

June 13, 2009 by Golf Gear Select Overview/Technology- Well, our […]

June 13, 2009 by Golf Gear Select

Overview/Technology-

Well, our first review of Penley – sorry to keep you waiting for one of the most prolific shafts on the market today. A take off from the ETA design, the Penley ET2 shaft has been under pain-staking scrutiny of the Penley Carter R&D group for the past year but introduced recently with a healthy fanfare. Although it certainly helps when you have John Daly as a major advocate, Penley has forged a respected path amongst the shaft makers and have come to be known as the quiet shaft maker that carries a big stick.

The Penley ET2 from Carter Penley is designed for the better player in mind. In fact, Carter Penley himself is quoted as saying “We started developing this shaft over a year ago and have had great player feed back and I truly feel for the better player this shaft is the best design to date, bar none.” That may be a bold statement but Mr. Carter is certainly qualified to make such a statement.

The ET2 has been under development since last year and was just recently introduced at the Golf Fest. So far, they’ve had very good responses. Although it is now available on the market for players, club fitters, OEM’s, it does not yet seem to be widely available, at least yet. We will definitely be watching this one.

Pros/Positives-

The ET2 is one of those gems. Carter Penley is known for creating golf shafts that are true performance machines, the ET2 looks to be no different.

Cons/Negatives-

The only con we could come up with is the price. The ET2 is not a cheap shaft. But than again, you are getting a quality composite that will elevate your game, paying a few extra dollar becomes a minor issue for what you get in return.

Overall Rating-

The Penley ET2 is an upgrade from the ETA design. The new design is not just for professionals like John Daly, but includes players who play a better than average game of golf and specifically want to improve on their distance and control.
